STEM Competition Training Workshop

Topics Covered:

  1. What is Storm the Citadel - Description, individual events
  2. What is Science Olympiad - Description, individual events, state and national level Science Olympiad
  3. What is KidWind - Description, individual events
  4. Starting a team - Recruiting students, getting other coaches involved, student expectations, parent involvement
  5. Tournament Scoring- Tournament format, blocked events, individual events and team winners.
  6. Event Training - Event manual, rules, practices, strategies, financial matters, resources.
  7. Challenge Time! Teachers will be given hands-on time to try some of the events in order to gain familiarity.

*2019 Storm the Citadel will be held at The Citadel (2/9)

*2019 Regional Competitions will be held at Newberry College (2/23) and The Citadel (3/2)

*2019 South Carolina State Competition will be held at The Citadel (3/16)

*2019 KidWind Competitions will be held at The Citadel (5/11)

Theme: "Uniting to Advance STEM in SC"

Cost:  $20 (presenters are FREE, scholarships available)

Lunch will be provided and CEUs available for teachers (plus fun swag)!

Parking on campus is free.

Event Description:

We look forward to seeing you on December 1st. The STEM Education Summit will focus on "Uniting to Advance STEM in SC" with sessions and panels on topics such as connecting industry and K-12, STEAM, STEM+Computer Science, STEM competitions (Science Olympiad, KidWind, and Storm the Citadel), examples of project- and problem-based teaching and learning, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary teaching, and many more. Please consider submitting a proposal to present and share the amazing work you do.

CS Fundamentals Training (grades K-5)

Interested in learning more about computer science and how it can be implemented in your classroom?  Join us for a day of training on December 8, 2018!

Cookies, Cocoa, and Coding

Saturday, December 15, 10am-12pm

In Thompson Hall at The Citadel, 171 Moultrie St, Charleston, SC

The Hour of Code is a global program that has reached millions of students in 180+ countries. Be a part of this terrific program!

Students and parents are invited to come to The Citadel on Saturday, December 15 for coding tutorials and yummy treats including cookies, cocoa and coffee. This FREE event is open to students in grades K-12 and aims to provide students with hands-on computing opportunities. Students will use Code.org’s tutorials in order to practice computer science concepts and skills.
