South Carolina Science Olympiad Coach Training Workshop

Time & Location:

  • Tuesday, June 12, 2018
  • 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
  • Cane Bay High School, 1624 State Rd.,  Summerville, SC


The South Carolina Science Olympiad Coach workshop is FREE for all teachers and coaches (thanks to Google!).

Lunch will be provided and CEUs available for teachers (plus fun swag)!

Topics Covered:

  1. What is Science Olympiad - Description, individual events, state and national level Science Olympiad
  2. Starting a team - Recruiting students, getting other coaches involved, student expectations, parent involvement
  3. Divisions- Science Olympiad is open to elementary, middle and high school students. Division are based on grade and each has 6 content areas
  4. Tournament Scoring- Tournament format, blocked events, individual events and team winners.
  5. Event Training - Event manual, rules, practices, strategies, financial matters, resources.
  6. Challenge Time! Teachers will be given hands-on time to try some of the events in order to gain familiarity.

*2019 Regional Competitions will be held at Newberry College and The Citadel

Institute Format:
All courses meet for one week of face-to-face instruction (no absences allowed). For AP Statistics, the equivalent of one week of online instruction (flexible hours during online week) will be required for graduate credit. It is not an option to forego graduate credit for AP Statistics.  All other courses are optional graduate credit for an additional cost and hours.

Registration Fees:

SC Public School Teachers:

Registration – $300 per course

Out-of-state or Private School Teachers:

Registration - $500 per course



Housing and Meals: Dorm or hotel recommendations will be provided to participants needing housing. The cost of housing and meals will be the responsibility of the participant. 

**Refund policy: All registration fees are non-refundable. If you fail to complete any registration steps listed above by June 5th, you will lose your spot in the course and all registration fees will be forfeited.

Infusing Computing in STEM

The Citadel’s STEM Center of Excellence is recruiting middle and high school teachers willing to learn new and innovative pedagogies to infuse computer science into their content areas. We’re looking for individual teachers, as well as interdisciplinary, school-based teams of 3-4 teachers to attend one week of PD, July 30-Aug 3, 2018 in Charleston, SC.
