Twenty-seven cadets awarded grants for summer study

Twenty-seven Citadel cadets have been awarded Star of the West International Summer Scholars grants totaling more than $133,000 to pursue study abroad opportunities.

The Star of the West International Summer Scholars is a one-time grant to support the academic enrichment of cadets whose project proposals presented a clear connection between the summer experience and their goals after graduation. The funding for this program was provided by the Star of the West Foundation, a trust that was established in 1945 through the tremendous vision and compassion of the late Col. William W. Wannamaker, Citadel class of 1919.

“This grant is indeed a high accomplishment for our cadets,” said Brig. Gen. Samuel H. Himes, provost and dean of the college. “These cadets are demonstrating what discipline and the pursuit of principled leadership in a globalized environment is about.”
