The Citadel elects new Staff Council for 2009-2010
Citadel employees have elected new Staff Council members and officers for the upcoming year.
Katie Gibson from The Citadel Graduate College replaces Casey Behrendt from The Citadel Alumni Association as chairman. Paul Cantrell from the Physical Plant was re-elected vice chairman and Gayle McCaffrey from the Physical Plant was re-elected secretary.
The mission of the staff council is to provide a forum for Citadel employees to present issues and discuss concerns that impact the quality of the work environment. Responsibilities of the council include:
- Evaluate and make recommendations on the development of job and supervisory skill, compensation, benefits, and welfare of classified staff employees, as well as other areas of concern brought to the Staff Council's attention.
- Develop and make recommendations to the administration on college-wide policies and procedures related to classified staff employees.
- Develop a systematic means for communicating to all classified staff employees’ current college policies, specific actions, and feedback concerning all matters considered by the Staff Council.
In addition, Staff Council coordinates events such as the annual Employee Appreciation Day, the Angel Tree Project, and Adopt-A-Highway. Employees are encouraged to contact their Staff Council representatives with any concerns or issues that need to be addressed.
Staff Council members are elected for two-year terms and officers are elected for a one-year term. Employees are represented and categorized by five constituent areas: academic support, institutional support, operations and maintenance, student services and auxiliary services. Representation on the council is based on a 1:15 ratio of employee positions within each constituent area.
