Dr. Henry Cross, III

Dr. Hank Cross, III received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. in 1951. He then received two master’s degrees; one in Chemistry at Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA in 1952 and another in Chemical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology from Hoboken, NJ. in 1960. In 1963 he received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from California Western University from Santa Ana, CA. Dr. Cross did his additional graduate study at The University of Notre Dame and Harvard Business School.

Dr. Cross spent the majority of his career with Colgate-Palmolive Company where his 36 years were spent in all areas of new product development, including biodegradable and phosphate free detergents. He has numerous patents in consumer products and athletic equipment. His terminal position in 1992 was Technical Director with his responsibility being worldwide technology transfer including the use of 750 Colgate Patents. Currently, Dr. Cross is the Chairman and Managing Director of The Cross Human Performance Testing and Research LLC.

Dr. Cross is an avid competitive shooter. A First Team All-American at Georgetown, U.S. Army Distinguished Marksman and currently belonging to several groups including Amateur Trap Shooting Association, National Skeet Shooting Association, and the National Sporting Clays Association. He is a lifetime Alumnus of The U.S. Olympic Shooting Team and a member of The South Carolina Trapshooting Hall of Fame

Dr. Cross has been the benefactor of the HESS Human Performance Laboratory at The Citadel, which is named after him. Dr. Cross was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree by The Citadel in May, 2105.
