The Southern Conference Academic Exchange, formed in 2015, focuses on sharing best practices and opportunities related to undergraduate research, study abroad opportunities, and leadership development programming. The Citadel is proud to support the leadership development programming initiative and to have named this effort, SoCon LEAD (Leadership Education and Development).

Representing the ten colleges in the NCAA’s Southern Conference, provosts, associate provosts, department heads and teaching and learning center directors from The Citadel, East Tennessee State University, Furman University, Mercer University, Samford University, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Virginia Military Institute, Western Carolina University, and Wofford College met on July 20-21, 2016 at Wofford College to hold their inaugural LEAD meeting. The overarching goal of this event was to mentor department heads and campus leaders associated with teaching and learning centers.

Jennifer S. Moyer of JSMoyer Consulting, LLC, facilitated workshop sessions related to effective coaching, group dynamics, providing feedback, and negotiation skills. Each session featured small group discussions and audience participation.

At the close of the inaugural meeting, participants forged relationships, pathways and mechanisms for future partnerships, collaborations, and development opportunities.
