Search opens for new Citadel athletic director

The Citadel has hired the firm of Eastman & Beaudine to handle the search for a new athletic director to replace Larry Leckonby.  The firm specializes in senior leadership placements in sports, entertainment and business. Leckonby left earlier this month to become athletic director at Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina.

The search committee hopes to have the new athletic director in place by the end of August according to search committee chair Tecumseh "Tee" Hooper. Hooper is a member of the class of 1969. He is on The Citadel Board of Visitors as vice chair for Athletics. Aditionally, he is in The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame for his achievements in basketball and tennis.

The job description posted on the state jobs website calls for a minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree and five years of athletics administration or coaching experience at the college level as well as a total of 10 years of experience in a business management role. The business management experience may be concurrent with coaching duties.

Preferred qualifications include experience with NCAA Division I, FCS or FBS; collegiate experience with development, fundraising and recruitment; and a Master’s degree in athletic administration or a related field.
