Finalists selected for dean of School of Science and Mathematics
Three finalists have been named for the position of Dean of the School of Science and Mathematics at The Citadel.
The finalists are:
- Robert U. Fischer, chairman of the Department of Biology and professor of biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham
- Constantine E. Theodosiou, vice provost for research and dean of the graduate school, and professor of physics at Montclair State University
- Lee B. Kats, associate provost for research, professor of biology, and the Frank R. Seaver Chair in Natural Science at Pepperdine University
The dean of the School of Science and Mathematics oversees curriculum and other academic matters as well as a departmental budget, and is responsible for faculty development that is focused on excellent teaching, quality research, and professional development in a student-centered environment. The dean also leads fundraising and development efforts within and in in support of the school.
The School of Science and Mathematics offers both graduate and undergraduate degrees in biology; health, exercise, and sport science; mathematics; and computer science; and undergraduate degrees in chemistry and physics. There are approximately 400 undergraduate and 100 graduate students in these programs.
The finalists will visit campus during March and April.
