Henry Dale Smith (1928-2015)

The staff of the Oral Communications Lab is deeply saddened by the passing of Henry Dale Smith, '47. Mr. Smith, who died Saturday, September 19th, 2015, created the OCL through a generous gift given nearly 20 years ago. Since that time, Mr. Smith has continued to contribute his time and resources to support the OCL in its efforts to help cadets and graduate students learn to communicate more effectively.

This lab exists solely because of Mr. Smith's vision and generosity. Through his contributions, he has helped to prepare hundreds of students for bright futures. His funds provide video equipment to record speeches, membership dues to the campus Toastmasters Club, materials to support the annual Corps-wide speaking contest, and so much more.

We at the OCL are forever indebted to this generous and visionary man. He is a remarkable example of principled leadership, and he will be missed dearly.

Our club officers played key roles in the event by coordinating each session, introducing guest speakers, and presenting certificates of appreciation. This year's TLI offered a wealth of learning experiences aimed at improving club involvement and leadership.
