Hotel Company recognized for platoon competition victory
Cadets Edward Sutton, Chris Cook and James Dixon accepted a guidon streamer Wednesday at noon mess in Coward Hall on behalf of Hotel Company for their victory in the platoon competition March 6-8.
This is the first year the guidon streamer has been awarded to the company who wins the annual platoon competition. Hotel cadets practiced two afternoons and four mornings a week for three weeks to prepare for the competition.
“They really wanted to win. The guys put a lot of work into practicing,” said Cook, the platoon sergeant for the competition.
Winning the 2006 platoon competition was a point of pride for the company. The last time the Hotel guidon bore a streamer was in 2002 when the seniors were freshmen.
“We had that attitude that we wanted to win,” said Sutton, who served as the platoon leader.
All 18 companies compete in the platoon competition, which requires them to perform military drill movements. Each platoon is composed of cadets from all four academic classes and has a designated platoon leader, platoon sergeant, and three squad sergeants.
