Improvements coming to Parents' Weekend 2007

The Citadel invites parents and families to campus Oct. 12-14 to join in our annual Parents’ Weekend festivities. Highlights of the weekend will be the presentation of class rings to seniors and the induction of the freshmen into the Corps of Cadets, signaling the end to military training and their promotion from recruit to cadet private.

Several improvements will take place this year and are designed to make your visit to campus enjoyable.

Ring presentations

This year the presentation of senior class rings on Friday, Oct. 12 will be held in McAlister Field House, rather than Summerall Chapel. This change of venue will allow cadets to invite up to six guests to the ceremony. Since more people can attend the ring presentation, there will be no remote broadcast this year. Cadets get more information here.

Ring ceremony: Friday night the ring ceremony begins at 6 p.m. in the field house with a performance by the Junior Honor Guard followed by the members of the senior class walking through the ring. Cadets get more information here

Ring hop: The Ring and Parents’ Weekend Hop (dance) on Friday night is moving to Deas Hall this year and will begin at 8 p.m., that's an hour and a half earlier than past years. This will give parents and cadets the opportunity to participate in both the ring ceremony and the hop.

Parents' reception: In addition, the Parents’ Reception and report to the parents by Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa, president of The Citadel on Friday, will relocate to Mark Clark Hall. Relocating the event returns all Parents' Weekend festivities to the main campus and eliminates the need for long walks to and from the various event venues.

Lunch tickets: Parents will have the chance to order tickets for Saturday lunch in advance. Forms will be mailed. You can complete the form, mail it back and your tickets will be mailed to you in advance of Parents' Weekend.

This weekend is a wonderful opportunity to visit the campus, meet faculty, staff, and administrators, and become more familiar with The Citadel, its history and traditions. We look forward to seeing you.
