Parents' Weekend 2009 will be filled with activities
Parents' Weekend 2009 activities will kick off on Friday, Oct. 23 and continue through Sunday, Oct. 25 at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.
|
Highlights of the weekend inlcude the presentation of class rings to seniors and the promotion of freshmen from cadet recruits to cadet privates followed by their official induction into the South Carolina Corps of Cadets.
Parents from across the country and the globe are expected on campus for the biggest of four major weekends celebrated each year. The others are Homecoming, Corps Days and Graduation Week.
"While it may seem that most of the activity is oriented toward freshmen or seniors, all parents will benefit from attending Parents’ Weekend and I encourage you to join us," said Citadel President Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa.
All academic departments will host open houses on Friday and on Saturday parents and families will be able to go inside the barracks to visit cadet rooms, watch the Kelly Cup competition, hear the Regimental Pipes perform along with many other activities.
"As the first major event each year, Parents’ Weekend represents a milestone, especially for members of the fourth and first classes," Rosa said. "My wife Donna and I treasure the memory of walking through the ring when I was a senior cadet in 1972, and we have special memories of Parents’ Weekend when our son, Brad, was a cadet and received his ring. I hope you will join us and create some special memories of your own."
