Award winners from The Citadel are:

  • Staff Sgt. John Vroom of Sarasota, Fla., $1,500 scholarship for the national Top Marine Option.
  • Staff Sgt. Jason Murphy of Pinckney, Mich., $500 scholarship for the Southeast Region Top Marine Option.
  • Cadet Andrew Fender of Greenback, Tenn., $500 scholarship for the Southeast Region Top Marine Option.
Gunnery Sgt. Rodney Nevinger of Killeen, Texas, named Southeast Region Top Assistant Marine Officer Instructor.

‘The entire unit is extremely proud of our award recipients,” said Marine Col. Thomas Clark, commanding officer of the Naval ROTC unit on campus. “They have worked hard and deserve this recognition. They are fine examples of The Citadel's staff and students.”
