Changes coming to Johnson Hagood

The arrival of Coach Kevin Higgins as head football coach is just one of many reasons that Bulldog fans have to be excited. While fans will have to deal with one more season of home seats on the east side and temporary stands for the cadets, work that will soon begin is a signal of greater things to come.

By the time the 2006 football season arrives, fans will have new permanent seating back on the east side. And even though Johnson Hagood Stadium will be in a transition phase for the coming season, fans can look forward to a new video scoreboard – part of a 10-year contract with Daktronics to provide scoreboards for Johnson Hagood Stadium and McAlister Field House and to manage athletic sponsorship opportunities.

Work In Progress During 2005 Season

Work to get Johnson Hagood Stadium ready for the 2005 football season moved forward with the award of a contract for temporary stands on the west side and a press box on the east side. Under the terms of the contract, the project will be completed before the first football game
on September 3rd.

The press box will be relocated to the east side to eliminate the need for temporary generators and simplify hurricane preparations should a storm be forecast for the Charleston area. The press box will remain on the east side until the tower construction is completed.

Work On Tower Phase Continues

The next phase of Johnson Hagood stadium will be construction of a tower supported by the west stands. The tower will include the new press box, suites and other amenities. The Citadel is currently exploring the possibility of sharing space and costs of the tower project with the South Carolina National Guard. Current topics for discussion include the space and cost requirements that are specific to the SCNG and the timeline for completing the project.
