Citadel and CofC host mathematics conference

The Citadel and the College of Charleston will host the 29th Annual Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics Southeast Atlantic Section (SIAM-SEAS) meeting March 25-26, 2005.

SIAM is a research and educational society that serves as a link among scientists, engineers, applied mathematicians and students. Highlights of this year’s meeting include:

• four principal conference speakers, including the 2005 SIAM president, Martin Golubitsky of the University of Houston,
• two short courses, one on population models and one on financial mathematics,
• nine mini-symposia on topics ranging from mathematics and music to dynamical modeling of biological systems to information retrieval,
• and paper presentations from both faculty and students as well as student presentation awards.

In addition, there will be an undergraduate Math Jeopardy contest. Cadets participating are math majors, Jui-Chian Chen and Shawna Hartman, and physics majors, Pisut Muangsamai and Kevin Young.
