Search committee approves timeline,
ideal qualities of new Citadel president

The Citadel's Presidential Search Committee this week published a timeline of its plans along with a list of qualities it would like the new president of the college to possess.

Recruiting for a new president is already under way. Applicants will be screened in April, interviews conducted in May and nominations reviewed in June. If the search process goes as planned, a new president could be in place around Aug. 1.

Citadel President Maj. Gen. John S. Grinalds announced in January that he will retire from the college this summer after eight years. A search committee was named in February to find his replacement.

"The Presidential Search Committee will select a president who can best lead The Citadel into the future," said Chairman William B. Sansom, Class of 1964.

Among the qualities the committee is looking for are someone with impeccable integrity, broad experience and success as a leader in his or her field and outstanding leadership and personal character that will inspire the Corps of Cadets, the College of Graduate and Professional Studies, and The Citadel's faculty and staff.

The timeline, list of committee members, qualifications and job announcement are available on the Board of Visitors page on The Citadel web site or at the direct link http://www.citadel.edu/r3/bov/psc/index.shtml.
