Parents'
Weekend 2004
Schedule of Events
Parents'
Weekend, The Citadel's first major weekend of the academic year, gets
under way Friday, Oct. 22 with a reception for the parents of freshmen
and the presentation of college rings to members of the Class of 2005.
Parents'
Weekend is Oct. 22-24 at The Citadel and while the celebration is geared
toward families of students, several activities are open to the public.
Many are free.
The
traditional military dress parade of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets
will be at 3:45 p.m. Friday and at 11 a.m. Saturday. During the Friday
parade, the freshman will officially join the Corps of Cadets after having
completed their initial military training. Parades are free and open to
the public. The gridiron match up against Georgia Southern University
is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23. Ticket information is available at http://citadelsports.collegesports.com/tickets/cita-tickets.html
or by calling 843-953-5121.
During
Friday's ring ceremony, about 340 seniors will earn their class ring.
The Citadel ring symbolizes the history of the state of South Carolina
and The Citadel and the academic, physical and personal achievements of
all members of the Corps of Cadets, past and present. The Class of 2005
raised money to present a Citadel ring to the parents of Cadet John Cooper
Gasque of Beaufort, S.C., who died in a car accident in January.
This
weekend is a wonderful opportunity to visit the campus, meet faculty,
staff and administrators and become more familiar with The Citadel, its
history and traditions. See you then!
