Lowcountry
Writing Project picks 2005 institute participants The Lowcountry Writing Project, hosted by The Citadel, is pleased to announce the participants in the 2005 Invitational Summer Institute. This program brings together public and private school teachers from across the Lowcountry, in all grade levels and all disciplines, for a month of intensive reading, writing, research, and practice. Participants, who are selected on the basis of an application and a personal interview, meet each day to write, discuss their writing, discuss effective ways to teach writing and use writing as a learning tool, engage in research about writing, and improve their teaching practices by leading or taking part in demonstrations of effective teaching practices. The 2005 Summer Institute is scheduled for June 6-30. An affiliate of the federally funded National Writing Project, the Lowcountry Writing Project seeks to improve student performance by improving the ways teachers teach writing and use writing as a learning tool. Graduates of the Invitational Summer Institute, known as teacher consultants, are available for workshops and presentations to area schools.
