Myrtle Beach resident receives prestigious scholarship award

Citadel cadet Raymond R. Foltz, a 2001 graduate of Carolina Forest High School, was awarded the Col. Loring K. Himelright Scholarship for his outstanding performance as a civil engineering student.

Col. Himelright, for whom the scholarship is named, is a former civil engineering department head. The scholarship fund was created following his retirement in 1981. The fund provides an annual scholarship award to a senior in civil engineering. Faculty members choose each year's recipient of a $2,000 scholarship.

Foltz received a plaque from Citadel Dean of Engineering Dennis J. Fallon and a check during a Homecoming weekend ceremony today.

Cadet Foltz is president of The Citadel Chapter of American Society of Civil Engineers and Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society. In addition, he is a member of
Phi Kappa Phi. A cadet captain, Foltz is the First Battalion Honor Committee representative.

He is the son of Mr. And Mrs. Richard L. Foltz of Myrtle Beach.
