 CGPS commencement speaker announced

           The Citadel announced today that Alex Sanders, former president of the College of Charleston, will deliver the commencement address to its College of Graduate and Professional Studies on Sunday, May 1. Commencement begins at 2 p.m. in McAlister Field House.

           Sanders currently is serving as chairman of the advisory committee at the Charleston School of Law. He retired in 2001 from the College of Charleston after nine years as president. During commencement he will be presented with an honorary doctorate of humanities.

           A lawyer by education and training, Sanders is also a retired Chief Judge of the S.C. Court of Appeals. A member of both the South Carolina House of Representatives and Senate and educator, Sanders has devoted a lifetime to public service in South Carolina. He also served in the United States Army, been a member of the adjunct faculty at both the University of South Carolina and Harvard Law School, and a professor at the College of Charleston.

        CGPS is now in its 36th year of providing evening graduate and undergraduate education to more than 1,200 Lowcountry residents in the fields of business, education, humanities, engineering, and sciences. The Citadel also offers the only campus-based nationally accredited MBA program in the Lowcountry
