Palmetto Battery, Lima honored for academic achievements         

Provost Donald Steven presents the Summerall Cup to Palmetto Battery Academic Officer Cadet First Lt. Andrew Brooks.

           Palmetto Battery and Lima Company took top academic honors during the Sept. 24 military dress parade at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.

           Palmetto Battery received two awards for outstanding academic achievement.

           The Summerall Cup, the first award, is given annually the cadet company that achieves the highest overall academic standing. The second award was the Pearlstine Award, which is presented annually to the company that achieves the highest freshman grade point ratio.

           Both awards represent academic
work completed during the 2003-2004
school year.

Cadet Capt. Boyd Pritchard, Lima Company commander, accepts the Bonnoitt award from Billy Mills, president of The Citadel Alumni Association.

           Accepting both awards from Provost Donald Steven and Billy Mills, president of The
Citadel Alumni Association, was Cadet First Lt. Andrew Brooks, Palmetto Battery academic
officer.
  

          The Murray D. Bonnoitt award is presented annually in honor of Murray D. Bonnoitt, Class of 1962 and a past president of the alumni association, to the cadet company with the highest freshman class retention rate for the previous school year.

           This year the Bonnoitt award went to Lima Company. Accepting the award for Lima Company was company commander Cadet Capt. Boyd Pritchard.
