G-8 political director to speak at The Citadel
Glyn T. Davies, political director for the U.S. Presidency of the G-8, will visit The Citadel Monday, March 29, 2004, to deliver a West Chair Series lecture on U.S. national security policy.
In his role as the John C. West Professor of Government and International Relations, former U. S. ambassador Philip Lader brings to The Citadel and the Lowcountry a distinguished panel of guests. The John C. West Professorship is endowed by The Citadel Foundation and by the late John C. West, former South Carolina governor and a 1942 Citadel graduate.
In August 2003, Davies began a yearlong assignment in his current position, helping prepare the 2004 U.S.-hosted Group of Eight summit meeting in Sea Island, Ga. The Group of Eight summit, which brings together leaders of the United States, Britain, Japan, Germany, Canada, Italy, France and Russia, meets annually to set much of the political, security, economic and health agenda for the next 12 months.
Mr. Davies has served in a variety of consular, economic, and political assignments at American consulates and embassies, with the National Security Council and the U.S. State Department. He earned his bachelor's degree from Georgetown University and his master's degree from the National Defense University.
