Ron Doyle, chief of grounds and operational services at The Citadel, recently received the President's Award from the South Carolina Governmental Fleet Managers Association. The award was presented during the SCGFMA conference Oct. 19-21 in Myrtle Beach. The award recognizes innovative practices in fleet repair and or maintenance. The Citadel was recognized for the establishment of a on-line vehicle reservation system that resulted in greater efficiency for customers and for being on the cutting edge of the 15-passenger van rollover issue by providing driver training for Citadel employees and other state agencies. The Charleston-based training saved employee time and costs of traveling to Columbia. Doyle
came to The Citadel in 1981 while on active duty as a master chief petty
officer in the Navy. He taught Naval Science courses for three years and
then retired in 1984 after 26 years of Naval service. He worked as a cadet
services coordinator in The Citadel's commandant's office until 1996 when
he moved to campus physical plant to manage the grounds department, motor
pool, boating center and contractual services departments. -end-
