Cadets help raise thousands for Relay for Life
The College Relay for Life attracted several hundred people to Johnson Hagood Stadium April 23 and 24 and raised $20,000 for the American Cancer Society's premier fundraising event.
"This is the first year that The Citadel has helped staff and sponsor the Relay for Life. The cadets who organized and ran this event exceeded our first-year expectations and the Corps of Cadets did an outstanding job in supporting us," said Cadet Master Sgt. Chad Buckel, the regimental human affairs sergeant.
More than 30 teams of 10 to 15 people each took part in the event, which was co-sponsored by the College of Charleston.
"C of C and The Citadel put together and outstanding team of dedicated young people to organize and run this event," Buckel said. "This has been a great project for both student bodies to embrace."
Charleston County Relay for Life is at 7 p.m. Friday, April 30 at Johnson
