William B. Hewitt is a multi-talented individual who has invested his energy and leadership to improve many facets of life in the Lowcountry. As the founding chairman of the Advisory Board to The Citadel School of Business Administration, Mr. Hewitt has helped shape the vision and outreach of this college's largest academic program. Yet, his contributions extend far beyond The Citadel to organizations that have improved the quality of life for many in Charleston and beyond.

Mr. Hewitt is president of Sirius Ventures, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in credit and receivables management. A seasoned corporate executive, he served as president and chief executive officer of The Union Corporation until 1998 when the company was sold to another conglomerate. Earlier in his career, he was a founding partner of the First Manhattan Consulting Group and, as a young businessman, he managed the first successful digital imaging processing system for the banking industry.

Mr. Hewitt serves as chairman of Global Vantedge and as a board member for Outsourcing Solutions, Incorporated, companies that provide business solutions to market needs. He is also on the board of Water Missions, International, a nonprofit organization that provides sustainable water systems to rural communities in Third World countries.

An engineer by training, Mr. Hewitt holds a Bachelor of Science from the United States Coast Guard Academy, a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the United States Naval Postgraduate School and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut.

His many contributions to community endeavors include leading the board of directors of the Spoleto Festival USA, one of this country's premier showcases for the arts. He has also chaired the board of the Health Sciences Foundation at the Medical University of South Carolina.

In recognition of his many contributions to business and the community, and his leadership with The Citadel School of Business Administration, The Citadel Board of Visitors is proud to present the honorary degree of Doctor of Business Administration to William B. Hewitt.
