Leading expert on Vietnam War coming to The Citadel

George C. Herring, one of the leading historians of the Vietnam War, will speak at The Citadel at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23.

Herring, an alumni professor of history at the University of Kentucky, will discuss "Vietnam: The War That Never Seems to Go Away."

According to Bo Moore, head of The Citadel's history department: "Professor Herring's visit provides the community with an opportunity to learn more from a pre-eminent scholar about the continuing impact of Vietnam on the American mind and American policy making, including how it currently shapes thought about the commitment of U.S. armed forces in the Middle East and beyond."

Herring is past president of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations and author or editor of eight books, including "America's Longest War: The United States and Vietnam." His lecture is sponsored by The Citadel's Department of History and is free and open to the public.

Herring's lecture will take place in Bond Hall, Room 165.
