Citadel Cheerleaders organize day clinic for kids

The Citadel Cheerleading Squad will hold its second annual cheerleading clinic on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Altman Athletic Center near Johnson Hagood Stadium.

The clinic is open to children ages 5 through 10 (up to 5th grade). Cost is $25 and includes lunch and a T-shirt. Registration deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20. Registration forms are available in the Citadel athletic ticket office on the first floor of McAlister Field House.

From 9 a.m. to noon children will learn cheers, dances and a half-time routine that they will perform during the Feb. 28 Citadel vs. Georgia Southern basketball game, which begins at 2 p.m. in McAlister Field House. Parents of clinic participants can purchase discount game tickets at the ticket office.

The cheerleading clinic helps support scholarships for Citadel cadet cheerleaders.

"We are building our program and the scholarships will help us recruit experienced athletes to support Citadel sports and to serve as ambassadors for the college," Coach Brittany Meyers said. "We hope to have a lot of children join us Feb. 28 for a day of fun."
