Top cadets for 2003-2004 announced

          The top six ranking cadets for the 2003-2004 academic year were recently announced at The Citadel.

          These student military officers will lead the approximately 1,800 members of the S.C. Corps of Cadets this coming fall. They were chosen after extensive interviews and evaluation of their achievements as cadets. All rising seniors, the cadets hail from South Carolina, New York, Florida, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

          Cadet Alan Keane Phillips of Maysville, Ky., earned the rank of regimental commander, the highest-ranking cadet position on campus. Cadet Phillips is a biology major and has been on the Dean's List, Commandant's List and President's List. A member of India Company, his previous positions of rank have included company clerk, battalion clerk and regimental sergeant major (the highest ranking position for a junior).

          Cadet Viann V. Bolick of Greenville, S.C., was named regimental executive officer, the second in command. Bolick, a history and biology major, is a member of Lima Company and on the cross country and track teams. She has made the Dean's List, Commandant's List, President's List and Gold Stars and previously has served as regimental administrative clerk, squad corporal and regimental administrative sergeant.

          Also named were four battalion commanders, each in charge of one of The Citadel's four barracks. Each battalion is composed of four to five companies with a total of 450 to 500 cadets in each battalion.

          Cadet Patrick C. Reilly will serve as the first battalion commander for the upcoming academic year. Reilly is from Boston, N.Y., and is a computer science major. While at The Citadel, he has been on the Dean's List, Commandant's List and President's List. He also has received Gold Stars. Previous positions of rank have included armorer, squad corporal, and company first sergeant. He is a member of Bravo Company.

          Cadet Philip T. Medico III will command second battalion. A business administration
major, Medico hails from Coral Springs, Fla. Medico has been on the Dean's List, Commandant's List and President's List and has received Gold Stars for outstanding academic performance. He has served as a company clerk in Hotel Company, battalion clerk and battalion sergeant major.

          Cadet Keith G. Laws will lead third battalion. He is a computer science major from Kannapolis, N.C. who has been on the President's List, Dean's List and Commandant's List. A member of Kilo Company, his previous positions have included squad corporal, fall sports cadre sergeant, company first sergeant. He played football his freshman year.

          And Cadet Richard R. Hillman of Allentown, Pa., has been named fourth battalion Commander. A criminal justice major, Hillman has also served as company clerk in Oscar Company, armorer and company first sergeant.
