Retired Lt. Gen. Frank Libutti will speak to Corps of Cadets

Lt. Gen. Frank Libutti, United States Marine Corps retired, will address the South Carolina Corps of Cadets at Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, in McAlister Field House.

Libutti is currently the New York City Police Department's Deputy Commissioner of Counter Terrorism. He will discuss leadership and ethics as part of The Citadel's Greater Issues Series, the premier lecture series at The Military College of South Carolina.

Since it was established in 1954, the Greater Issues Series has brought presidents, heads of state, scholars, diplomats, journalists and distinguished business and military leaders to Charleston. The series is made possible by a grant from The Citadel Foundation.

All Greater Issues speeches are free and open to the public.

Libutti is a 1966 graduate of The Citadel. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 35 years before retiring in 2001. After his retirement, Libutti was named Special Assistant for Homeland Security by President George Bush and was responsible for developing and executing a strategy to strengthen protection of America against terrorism. He held that position until January 2002, when he was named Deputy Commissioner of Counter Terrorism for the New York City Police Department.

In May, Libutti received an honorary Doctor of Military Science from The Citadel.
