The Citadel to honor Lowcountry educators

The Citadel will kick off this month's recognition of Lowcountry educators with a school supply drive.

Cadets, graduate students, faculty and staff will be asked to drop off school supplies in specially marked bins in the lobbies of Bond Hall and Capers Hall beginning Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002.

The school supply drive will continue through Sept. 21, when The Military College of South Carolina will honor educators from the Berkeley, Dorchester and Charleston county school districts at The Citadel Education Appreciation Day.

Supplies will be collected during The Citadel vs. Western Carolina game on Sept. 21 and during halftime the first Citadel Outstanding Educator Award will be presented to a Lowcountry teacher. Four other area teachers who have had significant influence on the lives of Citadel student-athletes also will be recognized.

The Citadel Education Appreciation Day is a joint effort of The Citadel Athletic Department, Citadel College of Graduate and Professional Studies and Citadel Education Department.

For more information, call Heather Anderson, director of marketing and recruiting in the College of Graduate and Professional Studies, at 953-4805.
