Pat Conroy returns to The Citadel to promote new book

Author and Citadel graduate Pat Conroy will sign copies of his new book at noon on Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at The Citadel's Holliday Alumni Center, 69 Hagood Ave.

"My Losing Season" was released in October by Doubleday/Nan A. Talese. It is Conroy's ode to his senior year as a starting point guard for The Citadel Bulldogs basketball team.

"It is also a paean to a modestly talented athlete who did it on hustle and drive, learning how to gain from losing. And learning what it meant to be a writer," said Charleston Post and Courier books reviewer Bill Thompson.

"While not a novel, 'My Losing Season' still mines the familiar veins of Conroy's family, and, like his earlier books, they make people a little jittery. Especially those depicted in them," Thompson said. "What of the sanctity of the locker room? This time there are no (fictional) subs coming off the bench."

Conroy graduated from The Citadel in 1967 with a bachelor of arts in English.

"My Losing Season" is on sale at Gift Shop in Mark Clark Hall on The Citadel campus and at the Holliday Alumni Center Gift Shop.
