Parking information during construction of Kovats Field

Map of parking areas for those who used to park at Kovats

To make way for some long range improvements in campus parking, Kovats Field will be closed for parking effective November 19, 2001. All vehicles should be removed from Kovats prior to the Thanksgiving break.

During the next three months Kovats Field will be paved and improved so that by mid-March you will have a much better place to park. This work on Kovats Field was scheduled to coincide with the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks in order to provide the least disruption during the school year. We realize that the construction work will inconvenience many people who normally park at Kovats and we ask for your patience in making the best of this temporary situation.

Information for cadets:
The PT Barracks lot will be designated parking for all cadets assigned to Kovats lot beginning November 21st.

Information for CGPS students:
If you normally park at Kovats Field, you will not be able to park there when classes resume after Thanksgiving break. You have several parking options during the construction period between now and mid-March.

  • A & B LOTS near Capers Hall and Bond Hall after 5 p.m.
  • K & L LOTS behind Grimsley, Thompson and Jenkins Hall in those spaces that are not numbered.
  • JOHNSON-HAGOOD STADIUM LOT at the north end of the stadium. If the stadium lot becomes full because of events at the Alumni Center, the fields south of the stadium will be available for parking. Because of the pressure on campus parking while Kovats Field is closed, Johnson-Hagood Stadium is probably your best bet.

The Citadel has installed additional streetlights in the stadium lot and along Hagood Avenue for added security. Also, there is an emergency call box located near the Alumni Center and Public Safety will increase surveillance of the parking area near the stadium during evening classes. When you return to class after Thanksgiving break, guards at the gates will have information about where you might park.

For the Faculty and Staff:

  • F LOT stickers: Faculty and Staff with parking places in F Lot will be able to park in front of 404-409 Congress. The Congress Street gate will be open during normal work hours to accommodate construction traffic and access to that area.
  • A LOT stickers: If you park in A Lot and there is no room, you are encouraged to park at the Johnson-Hagood Stadium lot. However, overflow parking will also be available along the fence outside the gate behind Daniel Library and Summerall Chapel.

If you have any questions about parking, please contact Public Safety at 953-5114 or Col. D.M. Tomasik, VPFE at 953-5304.
