Governor honors outgoing chairman with Order of the Palmetto
Charleston, S.C. -- William E. Jenkinson III, a 1968 graduate of The Citadel, was elected the next chairman of the college's governing board during its meeting on Saturday. Jenkinson will succeed Leonard C. Fulghum Jr. who served as chairman for the past two years and will retire on June 30.
Fulghum, a 1951 Citadel graduate, received the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina's highest honor, on Friday night. The award presented by Senator Billy O'Dell recognized Fulghum's public service and leadership on the board where he has served since 1977.
In April, the General Assembly appointed two Columbia residents to six-year terms on The Citadel's governing board.
Glenn Addison, a financial advisor with UBS/Paine Webber Inc., will take Fulghum's seat. Addison is a 1979 graduate who served for six years in the Air Force and has served in the South Carolina Air National Guard since 1985.
Columbia accountant Douglas A. Snyder was appointed to a second term. A 1982 Citadel graduate, Snyder has served as vice chairman for the past year.
