A message from MG John S. Grinalds, President of The Citadel

The Citadel is cooperating fully with the Immigration and Naturalization Service in the investigation of a cadet who has been picked up for documentation irregularities. The cadet, an international student, is being held for INS administrative proceedings.

This investigation of documentation problems is similar to INS investigations taking place at college campuses all over the country.

I would like to say especially to our cadets and parents that The Citadel is a safe campus. Let me reassure you that we have worked with Public Safety and local law enforcement agencies and have reviewed security measures at all levels to ensure the continued safety of our students, faculty and staff.

The Citadel is committed to having a safe, secure campus for its students, faculty and staff. The Citadel is also committed to the mutual respect and consideration of all cadets and urges people not to make assumptions in this case or to make generalizations about any group of students based on recent terrorist events.

We at The Citadel will remain alert to any possible risks and vigilant about our safety but we will not allow fears and speculations to distract us from our primary mission of educating tomorrow's leaders.
