Former vice chair to the Joint Chiefs of Staff to speak at Citadel
U.S. Air Force General (retired) and former vice chair, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Robert T. Herres will speak at The Citadel. General Herres will speak on "The Role of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Development and Implementation of Policy," as part of the John C. West Lecture Series. The event will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 22 in Bond Hall 165 on The Citadel campus. The public is invited to attend.
General Herres is former commander in chief of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and Aerospace Defense Command. He was the first commander in chief of the U.S. Air Force Space Command, which he assumed upon activation of the unified command in September 1985. Herres became vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in February 1987. This was his last assignment. General Herres retired in February 1990.
Herres comes to The Citadel at the invitation of Phillip Lader, the first U.S. ambassador to the Court of St. James (the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). Lader serves as the John C. West Professor of Government and International Relations at The Citadel. The John C. West Professorship is endowed by former S.C Gov. John C. West, a 1942 Citadel graduate, and by The Citadel Foundation.
