FOR RELEASE New Zealand song, dance and
heritage coming to The Citadel
Charleston, S.C. -- The songs, dance, chants and cultural history of the Maori people will be showcased when Kahurangi - The Maori Dance Theatre of New Zealand performs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Mark Clark Hall Auditorium at The Citadel. Kahurangi, founded in 1983, is a touring group of men and women dedicated to preserving Maori song, dance, heritage and language, while also promoting cultural understanding and community service. The group aims to encourage an appreciation of Maori song, dance, heritage and language for people of all ages, to preserve ancient Maori chants and dances as well as promote the development of contemporary styles in the performing arts and create cultural, educational, social and employment opportunities in the performing arts for young Maori people.
