The Citadel Celebrating 159 Years

          The Citadel will celebrate the 159th anniversary of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets during its Corps Day Weekend March 15-17.

          One of the most highly attended Citadel attractions, Corps Day will feature a cadet talent show, dress parades, the presentation of the Palmetto Medal Awards, and numerous athletic events.

          The Citadel Corps Day tradition began with the colleges inception in 1843 when the first 20 cadets reported for class at the old Citadel on Marion Square in downtown Charleston.

          Highlights of Corps Day include the following events:

  Thursday, March 14
6:15 p.m. Corps birthday celebration. Coward Mess Hall. Oldest alumni and youngest cadet cut the birthday cake. (Not open to the public).
7:30 p.m. The Cadet Talent Show, McAlister Field House (Admission $3 for non-cadets $3)
  Friday, March 15
11 a.m. First Citadel Undergraduate Research Conference poster display, Prioleau Room of Daniel Library. Display ends at noon March 16.
1:30 p.m. Registration, Mark Clark Hall Auditorium
2 p.m.

Citadel Family Association Open Meeting, Bond Hall, Room 165 Tennis vs. Appalachian State, Earle Tennis Center

3:45 p.m. Parade review to commemorate the 159th anniversary of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets and to recognize the Gold Corps. Summerall Field.
6 p.m. Citadel Baseball vs. Appalachian State, Joe Riley Park
9 p.m.

Corps Day Hop featuring the "Time For Change" band, McAlister Field House. (Not open to the public.)

  Saturday, March 16
8 a.m. Volleyball Tournament, McAlister Field House
8:30 a.m. Registration, coffee, sale of mementos, Mark Clark Hall Auditorium
8:45 a.m.

Barracks and facilities open to visitors. Citadel Pipe Band will perform at each barracks. Barracks close at 10:00 a.m.

9 a.m. Summerall Guards performance/Bond Volunteer participation, exchange of rifles, presentation of Anthony Griffin Sword and presentation of Club Award, Summerall Field
10:15 a.m.

The Citadel Story A musical narration of the history of The Citadel, Summerall Field

11 a.m.

Parade review for The Citadel Board of Visitors, Presentation of Palmetto Medals, Brigadier Foundation Presidents Award and MacArthur Cadet of the Year, Summerall Field

Mens Soccer Alumni Game - WLI Field

2 p.m. Citadel Baseball vs. Appalachian State, Joe Riley Park
  Sunday, March 17
1 p.m. Citadel Baseball vs. Appalachian State, Joe Riley Park
