Congressman Steve Buyer to speak to Corps of Cadets
The Citadel will host U.S. Congressman Steve Buyer on Tuesday, April 16. Buyer will deliver the Greater Issues Series address "Character Counts" to nearly 2,000 cadets, faculty and staff at 11a.m. in McAlister Field House on The Citadel campus.
The Greater Issues Series is the premier lecture series at The Citadel. Since it was established in 1954, the series has brought presidents, heads of state, scholars, diplomats, journalists and distinguished business and military leaders to Charleston. The series is made possible by a grant from The Citadel Foundation.
Buyer (pronounced Boo-yer) is in his fifth term in the U.S House of Representatives. Following his 1980 graduation from The Citadel, Buyer was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army as a Medical Service Corps Officer. After graduation from Valparaiso Law School, he transferred to the Judge Advocate General Corps and was called to active duty for three years. He continues to serve as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve.
In 1992, Buyer was elected to represent Indianas Fifth Congressional District where he currently serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
