The Citadel Foundation has named Frank A. Shannon III executive director of the colleges new fundraising organization. Shannon, who is currently executive director of the Mississippi State University Foundation, begins his duties at The Citadel Aug. 1.

Shannon, a 1977 graduate of Texas A&M University, has 18 years experience in higher education fundraising and helped lead the Mississippi State University Foundation to set a $40 million annual fund campaign record.
Shannon previously worked at Texas A&M University in both the college and athletic fundraising programs. He was responsible for major gift programs at Texas A&M until 1992 when he became executive director of the 12th Man Foundation. There, Shannon led fundraising efforts that generated more than $6 million annually for athletic programs.
Shannons appointment as The Citadel Foundations executive director culminates the recent merger of The Citadel Development Foundation and the colleges advancement office into a single fundraising organization. The Citadel Brigadier Foundation will continue to raise money for athletic scholarships but will now have the support and assistance of the college's new foundation.
A 1977 graduate of Texas A&M University, Shannon and his wife Debbie have six children.
