The Honorable Roberta Smith Tracy has been named The Citadels Director of Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity and Diversity. Reporting to the president, she will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all programs pertaining to diversity, equal opportunity, race relations, sexual harassment, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
A native of Washington, D.C., Tracy has devoted her lifes work to issues of civil rights and liberties, equity and the rights of children. As an undergraduate student, she attended Spelman College and Howard University. She received a Juris Doctor degree from Howard University School of Law in 1973 and has completed post-graduate studies in Labor and Industrial Relations at Cornell University.
1992, she became the first African American woman to be appointed
to the State of Connecticut Workers Compensation Commission.
As Commissioner/Administrative Law Judge, she presided over state
cases in accordance with the Workers Compensation Act. With
more than 20 years professional, legal, and executive management
experience, she comes to The Citadel well qualified.
