South Carolina state Senator Ernest L. Passailaigue will speak at The Citadels College of Graduate and Professional Studies commencement exercises in McAlister Field House at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5.
Passailaigue has distinguished himself as an outstanding leader in the legislature and the state of South Carolina. He has represented Charleston and Berkeley counties in the South Carolina Senate since 1989, serving on numerous committees such as the Banking and Insurance Committee, Finance Committee, the Hunley Commission Council of State Governments Strategic Planning Committee, Invitations Committee, Labor Commerce and Industry Committee and the Transportation Committee. During his tenure he has also served on Joint Legislative Committees such as the Aging committee, Cultural Affairs committee, and the committee to Review Intrabudgetary Transfer Funds to the Department of Highways and Public Transportation.
In addition to his position in the Senate, Passailaigue is a certified public accountant with Passailaigue, Blanchard & Knight. He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of South Carolina and later went on the earn his masters of business administration degree from The Citadel. He served on the Board of Directors for the S.C. Association of CPAs from 1985 until 1994. During this time he served as both president and vice president of the association. In 1995 he was chosen Legislator of the Year by the S.C. Student Legislature.
