Colonel David O. Golden has been named the new chaplain of The Citadel and will succeed Colonel Charles T. Clanton who is retiring after serving as chaplain at The Citadel since 1994. Colonel Golden will begin his duties as chaplain of the 1700-member Corps of Cadets and director of religious activities on July 16.
Colonel
Golden has a master of theology degree in pastoral care from Princeton
Theological Seminary and a master
of divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore,
Kentucky. He comes to The Citadel more than 28 years experience
as a U.S. Army chaplain. He served one combat tour in Vietnam,
three tours of duty in Europe. He was action officer on the staff
of the Forces Command Chaplain, division chaplain for the 1st
Armored Division, senior staff chaplain at Supreme Headquarters
Allied Powers Europe, and installation staff chaplain at Fort
Jackson, S.C. He is presently the senior pastor for Post Chapel
Protestant in Columbia, a multi-denominational congregation with
more than 300 members.
Colonel Golden was born in Elkhart, Ind. He is married to the former Alice S. Hendrickson, also of Elkhart. They have two daughters.
