PROMOTION TO BRIGADIER GENERAL
Citadel professor Michael B. Barrett has recently been nominated by the President of the United States for promotion to Brigadier General in the U.S. Army Reserve. In response to his promotion Barrett says, "I am certainly excited at the prospects of serving in the Army Reserves in a position of greater responsibility, and I am equally excited at the opportunity for continued service."
Barrett, a Citadel faculty member since 1976, is an Associate Professor of History and specialist in the field of Weimar and Third Reich Germany. Barrett's activities at The Citadel, however, are not limited to teaching. He was dean of graduate studies from 1985 until 1990, and this year he is chairman of the Faculty Council.
Graduating from The Citadel in 1968, Barrett went on to earn his master's and Ph.D.degrees, from the University of Massachusetts. He is married to the former Sara H. McKerley of Charleston, and his son Michael M. Barrett, Citadel class of 1997, is now an Army second lieutenant serving at Ft. Benning, Ga.
