ONE OF THE FIRST FEMALE CADETS TO RECEIVE ACADEMIC ACCOLADES

CHARLESTON, S.C., Jan. 29.--Nancy Mace, one of The Citadel's first female cadets, will be among the 139 cadets who will be presented Gold Stars for academic excellence at the military college during this Friday afternoon's dress parade (Jan. 31).

Gold Stars are awarded for attaining a grade point ratio of 3.7 or better out of a possible 4.0 for the fall semester. That is equivalent to four A's and one B.

The highly prized stars, one inch in diameter, are worn on both sides of the collar of the dress and full dress uniforms and are presented at a parade each semester.

A dress parade is held at 3:45 almost every Friday during the college year to conclude the week's academic activities at The Citadel. The public is always welcome to attend.
