CHARLESTON, S.C. (Feb. 14)--James L. Ferguson, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of General Foods, will speak at The Citadel on Thursday, February 22, as part of the college's prestigious Greater Issues Series. The address will begin at 11:15 a.m. in McAlister Field House and is free and open to the public. The Cadet Honor Guard, accompanied by the Color Guard and members of the Regimental Band, will conduct an honor ceremony welcoming Mr. Ferguson at 10:45 in front of Bond Hall.
Ferguson, a graduate of Hamilton College and Harvard University, served in the combined position of Chief Executive Officer, Chairman and President of General Foods from 1974-77. He retired in 1989 as the company's Executive Committee Chairman.
A Charleston resident, Mr. Ferguson holds numerous local and national posts, including Chairman of the South Carolina Aquarium, Board Director for the Hollings Cancer Center, member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and member of The Center for Strategic and International Studies.
The Citadel's Greater Issues Series, supported by a grant from the
Mills B. Lane Memorial Foundation, provides an opportunity for many national
leaders to address the Corps of Cadets concerning the national and international issues that are shaping the United States.
