CHARLESTON, S.C., April 24.--Cadet Matthew Cole and former cadet Patrick Stich will receive the Commandant's Distinguished Service Scroll Thursday for rescuing and attempting to revive a young woman who was rendered unconscious following a car accident.

The certificate will be presented during a brief ceremony at noon in front of Padgett-Thomas Barracks to Cadet Cole and Mr. Stich, a cadet at the time of the incident and now a student in The Citadel's College of Graduate and Professional Studies.

The young woman, whose car had run off I-26 and been concealed in the trees, was discovered by Cole and Stich on their way to Reserve training. After administering first aid, they flagged down another motorist to contact EMS and stayed with the woman until she was flown to a Columbia hospital.

Only recently emerged from her six-month coma, the young woman will join ten of her family members at the ceremony and will be a guest of the Corps of Cadets in The Citadel's Dining Hall after the presentation.
