CHAIN OF COMMAND FOR 1996-97

CHARLESTON, S.C. (April 22)--The Citadel has announced the 1996-97 chain of command for the Corps of Cadets.

     Cadet Leroy Bryant Butler of Goose Creek was named regimental commander, the highest-ranking cadet in the 1,800-member corps. He will hold the rank of cadet colonel. Butler is a math and education major and a recipient of the Gold Star award for earning above a 3.7 grade point average.

     Cadet Matthew E. Doster of Havana, Fla., will be the regimental executive officer, second in command. Doster is an English major and a member of The Citadel Honors Program. He will hold the rank of cadet lieutenant colonel.

     Four battalion commanders, each in charge of one of The Citadel's four barracks, were also named. Battalion commanders hold the rank of lieutenant colonel.

     Cadet Michael Arpaio of Santiago, Chile, will command the first battalion. Arpaio, an English major, is a Dean's List student and a United States Marine Corps contract cadet.

     Cadet Gregg Jones of Summerville will command the second battalion. Jones majors in biology and has also been named to the Gold Star List.

     Cadet Rob Lister of Mt. Pleasant will command the third battalion. Lister, an English major, is a recipient of a full, four-year, inflation-proof Citadel Scholarship. He is also Chairman of the '96-'97 Honor Committee.

     Cadet Shane Finnison of Kernersville, N.C., will command the fourth battalion. Finnison, a political science major, is a recipient of the U.S. Army Superior Cadet award.
