The Art of Garden Design

Renowned landscape artists Hugh and Mary Palmer Dargan will speak on The Art of Garden Design on March 20 at 6:00 p.m. in Bond Hall 165 on The Citadel campus for the Daniel Library Friends' second annual Emily Whaley Memorial Lecture and Garden Tour. The lecture is free and open to the public. The garden tours will take place on Sunday, March 19, from 2:30 to 6:00 p.m.; call 953-7691 for more information or to reserve a place.

The Dargans, who lived in Charleston for 12 years, have designed many of Charleston's most beautiful gardens. Currently in Atlanta, they've completed projects in 14 states and in England. Their work has been featured in a myriad of publications, including Gardens of Historic Charleston and the recent Gardens of the 21st Century, which highlights designers from all over the world.

The Emily Whaley Memorial Lecture is in tribute to lifetime Charleston gardener, Emily Fishburne Whaley who believed that in gardening the eye is trained to discover beauty.
