Astronomer Dr. Mauro Giavalisco will present a seminar at The Citadel on Wednesday, November 17th entitled "Observing the Evolving Universe." The program, which was originally scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., will now take place at 8:15 p.m. in Grimsley Hall. The event is co-sponsored by The Citadel Department of Physics and the South Carolina Space Grant Consortium.
Dr. Giavalisco will discuss the formation of galaxies, the evolution of stars and other discoveries that have fundamentally changed our understanding of the universe in the last 25 years.
An astronomer with the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Giavalisco is using observations from the Hubble Space Telescope to study the relationship between dark matter and the formation of the earliest galaxies.
