CITADEL RECEIVES GIFT

          Citadel President Maj. Gen. John S. Grinalds is pleased to announce the college has received a gift of $567,000 from Col. and Mrs. James E. Townes Jr. of Mount Dora, Fla., to establish a scholarship fund in honor of their sons, James E. Townes III and Richard C. Townes.

          Col. and Mrs. Townes stated, "The Citadel was a vital part of the education and development of our son Richard. We are delighted to be able to show our appreciation to the military college. We look forward to many outstanding Citadel cadets benefiting from our scholarship."

          "This gift," said Gen. Grinalds, "is a marvelous example of the generosity of Ed and Alice Townes and the special feeling for the institution that they developed during their sons’ experience here."
