CHARLESTON, S.C., Oct. 22.--The Frances and Tandy Rice Scholarship Fund, established by Tandy Rice in honor of his late parents and son, has reached the $100,000 level.
Rice cited two reasons for his initiative: a desire to honor the loving memories of his late mother and father and his late beloved son, and to evidence an expression of thanks, gratitude and profound appreciation to The Citadel for the way it has blessed his life.
Recipients eligible for the scholarships will possess those attributes which are in accord with the high standards of The Citadel.
The dedication of the scholarship is set for Friday, October 31, following The Citadel's dress parade. At that time Rice will be recognized as a lifetime member into the Summerall Society, The Citadel's most prestigious donor recognition group.
Tandy Rice is president and chief executive officer of Top Billing International, a Nashville-based entertainment organization specializing in world-wide booking and management of some of the biggest names in country music. He is a native of Franklin, Tenn. and graduated from The Citadel in 1961. He has been featured on two of television's national news magazines and in People, the Atlanta Constitution and Newsweek magazines, the New York Times and the Washington Post.
